1591: Ottomans grant Tunis the status of "privileged province", formalizing existing autonomy
1705: Husayni Dynasty comes to power, establishing a de facto independent Tunisian beylik that's still in the Ottoman sphere of influence
1871: Beylik ceases to pay tribute to the Ottomans, de facto ending any vassalage
