Chronology
1963: Federation of South Arabia (FSA) established as an independent union under British protection composed of Aden, Lahej, Aqrabi, Haushebi, Maflahi, Dhala, Shaib, Fadhli, Lower Yafa, Audhali, Dathina, Lower Aulaqi, the Upper Aulaqi Sheikhdom, the upper Aulaqi Sultanate, Beihan, and Wahidi, all separated out from the former Aden Protectorate. The four sultanates that chose to remain under British administration become the Protectorate of South Arabia (PSA).
1967: the FSA unites with the PSA to become the new independent country of South Yemen
