Chronology
911: Viking leader Rollo is granted a fiefdom in Northern France by West Francian King Charles III the Simple
924: Normandy extends westward to the Vire river
933: The Cotentin and Channel Islands are given to Normandy by King Rudolph of West Francia
1066: Norman duke William I conquers England, and rules it in personal union until his death in 1087
1106: Personal union with England restored under Henry I Beauclerc
1144-1150: Personal union with England disrupted as Geoffrey Plantagenet takes control of the duchy as part of the war of English succession between his wife Matilda and Stephen of Blois
1204: Philippe II of France captures Normandy from the English and makes it a province of the French royal domain. The Channel Islands remain in English hands and become the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey, where the English/British sovereign is still known as the "Duke of Normandy" to the present. England would also briefly regain control of Normandy proper twice during the Hundred Years war, in 1346-1360 and again in 1415-1450.
