Chronology
1861: Oman accepts the 1856 secession of Zanzibar through British-mediated peace, the Arabian parts of the former Omani Empire become Muscat and Oman
1913-1920, 1945-1957: Imamate of Oman in the interior in rebellion against the Sultanate
1965-1979: Civil War in Dhofar against Chinese-backed communist rebels
1970: Coup by Prince Qaboos bin Said against Sultan Said bin Taimur leads to Muscat and Oman being reformed into Oman
