Chronology

1832: Emirate of Mascara founded by Abd al-Qadir ibn Muhyi al-Din (Abdelkader) in opposition to the French conquest of Algeria

1847: After a string of defeats against France and Morocco, Abdelkader surrenders and his state is annexed to French Algeria
