Chronology

1674: Maratha state established independent of the Mughal Empire

1680-1707: Deccan Wars against the Mughals

1761: The Peshwa (Chief Minister) effectivley becomes ruler and the Chhatrapati (Emperor) is stripped of power

1781: Baroda, Gwalior, Indore, and Nagpur all separate from the Empire, reducing it to the western part of Satara

1818: Remainder of the Maratha State annexed to British India, Chattrapatis rule Satara as a princely state until 1848
