Chronology

1348: Duchy of Berg and County of Jülich unite

1521: United with Cleves as Jülich-Cleves-Berg

1614: After a succession crisis, Jülich-Cleves-Berg is partitioned between Protestant Cleves, annexed to Prussia, and Catholic Jülich and Berg, in personal union with the Palatinate (and later Bavaria from 1742)

1801: Jülich conquered by France

1803: Berg formally separated from Jülich, end of the duchy
