As a result of the Macedonia Naming Dispute with Greece, Macedonia used the official name "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" from 1993 to 2019 as a provisional name until a permanent solution could be found. In 2019, the name "North Macedonia" was adopted to end the dispute, but just "Macedonia" continues to be used colloquially.
