Chronology
1861: Six secessionist states unite into the Confederate states. Five more states and two splinter governments (Missouri and Kentucky) would join in the coming months, as well as some tribal governments in Indian Territory (modern Oklahoma).
1865: Confederate military surrenders and government is dissolved
